What is free thinking and is it free ?

Free thinking is very expensive !!
Since Free Thinkers are normally at logger heads with :

DOGMA….POPULAR BELIEF SYSTEM….CONVENTIONAL WISDOM…. TRADITION…..POPULAR CULTURE…..

…where do they stand in the society… it is any body’s guess !!!

Free Thinking may be an exercise that has its genesis in the innate freedom of a human….. but by a cruel fallacy of semantics….it is not something that is FREE…..it comes with a very heavy price !

Let us make a little effort….to reduce its price !!!

……and increase its value !!!

Venkataraman Ramakrishnan won the Nobel prize in Chemistry in 2009 but decades ago he failed to clear entrance tests for both the IITs and a reputed medical college.

At a public lecture at the Indian Institute of Science campus here, he recalled his journey from Baroda where he went to school and college before moving to Ohio University for his Ph.D. He noted that he appeared for the IIT entrance test but “did not get a single seat in IITs “

The questions that crop up are: ( Hope these are Nobel questions …not Ignoble !!!)

Can this be true ???

Can we claim to have a ‘professional’ approach towards learning and excellence ?

Is the selection process in premier engineering institutes lacking in THE REAL thing ?

Is it always true that great geniuses go unnoticed by the academia ?

Do we need this kind of educational philosophy ?

What is the point in having marking system in learning institutes ?

How else can we separate ‘wheat’ from the ‘chaff’ ?

Is education system in need of serious Redefining ?

What REALLY can be done to reform education…..and reform humanism ??? 

 

OUT OF BOX THINKING or THIN KING ?

Creativity and out of box thinking are the words of the season….be it corporate….educational…or any other social environment!

It is quite fashionable to be talking of out of box thinking!

Well…well…well… It is quite alright to be thinking in a non-linear manner….but the catch here is… Are people really THINKING in the first place!

If they are not accustomed to ‘thinking’ …one cannot expect them to be thinking…out of box??? (Or any other way!!!)

Now to complete the poetry….. And, possibly to get around this controversy….

Here we go….

Is it out of box thinking…?
Or an out of box thin king?

King is thin these days as he is watching his weight
…while his subjects are all hoping….but they have to wait!

Thinking king is seldom a possibility
As people simply vote….they don’t check the ability

In these places called mature democracies
We often come across certain hypocrisies

Those who think …are out of the mainstream …anyway
Let them think …in or out …of box…while we make hay!
